A Custom Wedding Map by Cute Maps

Guests from further afield can struggle to find your Scottish wedding venue, so how about a custom wedding map? Cute Maps are a new twist on wedding stationery that’s both practical and pretty! They’re designed by artist and illustrator Sheree Hutchinson, who first came up with the idea when planning her own wedding. She says she was on a modest budget, but wanted something with more individuality and personality than an ordinary route map. Cue the first Cute Map!

Sheree went on to launch her website, and her funky, friendly Cute Maps were an instant hit, with orders coming in from destinations as far afield as Austria, Australia and Beverley Hills, as well as places all over the UK. Each one is personalised to the individual couple and the occasion, whether it’s a wedding, birthday or other celebration. Her whimsical illustrations pick out local landmarks and can also add adorable romantic touches that help to tell the couple’s story. No two are the same, and they make a lovely keepsake.

Cute Map designs are versatile, and can be sent as Save the Date postcards, invitation inserts or even the invitation itself. You can order printed cards, postcards or magnets, or simple order the design and use your own creativity! Some of Sheree’s clients have used the designs on posters, signs, stickers and even tote bags – the possibilities are endless!

Betterdaze Wedding Juke Box

There are five different models of the famous Wurlitzer 1015 Dometop Bubbler, which holds 100 7-inch singles, giving you a choice of up to 200 songs from an amazing 30,000+ originally vinyl singles from the last 50 years. For true vinyl buffs, there are also rare records from non-chart artists, including American rock-n-roll and European rock. Do custom bridal shoes come more fabulous than this? Get Knotted was bowled over by these delectable bridal shoes from Figgie Shoes. The company is the brainchild of artist Deborah Thomson, who specialises in custom hand-painted shoes that are unique artworks in their own right.

Deborah works to your own ideas, motifs and images – the more creative and eclectic, the better – and hand-paints a wonderfully individual design that you’ll treasure forever. Previous brides have requested flowers, rings, names and dates, an ice cream cone, lyrics to personal songs, favourite dogs, and even the Trevi Fountain! There are no limits – as long as there’s an area to paint!

The artist describes her shoes as ‘ridiculously personal – their purpose is to try and explain, in picture and personality, who YOU are, to anyone who happens to be looking’.

Almost any style of shoe can be transformed by Figgie’s art, whether heels, flats or slippers, satin or leather. The only exception is patent leather, which doesn’t take paint well. You can either send your own chosen shoes, or Figgie can supply them, though this will mean you can’t try them on before painting. The great news is, she also creates shoes for non-brides, and well as adorable Figgie Footsies for babies and toddlers…

I’m always looking for fun ideas to help wedding parties go with a swing, and these wedding photos by Birmingham photographer Steve Gerrard really made me smile. His Fun Booth has a set of kooky props and costumes which guests can use to stage informal pictures that bring out the livelier side of their personalities. Steve sets up an area of your reception room, and unpacks a treasure box of theatrical hats, specs, wigs, deely boppers, musical instruments…  anything colourful and daft that’ll help guests to relax. They seem to need no persuading to show off their silly side, and the result is loads of hilarity, whether you’re watching or taking part! And you’ll come away with some playful pictures that your guests will love.

Steve also offers some edgy ideas for couples looking for a daring, original look for some of their wedding photographs. His Trash the Dress sessions are a new look at portraiture, contrasting the beautiful bride and bridal gown against alterative settings, including urban backstreets, scrapyards, fields and beaches. A great way to get more out of your wedding dress (and you don’t really need to trash it…)!

Royal Wedding watchers can’t have failed to notice a tasty trend that’ll appeal to everyone that’s no so keen on traditional wedding cakes – the groom’s cake. Prince William apparently requested his favourite chocolate, biscuity one using McVitie’s Rich Teas, as an alternative to the magnificent eight-tiered one created by Fiona Cairns.

It seems grooms’ cakes aren’t a new phenomenon – there’s a recipe for a ‘Plain Bridegroom’s Cake’ in an 1897 book called The British Baker. In the meantime, the trend originated in the United States, and the Royal Wedding has given it a big boost over here, with cake designers reporting a sudden upsurge in enquiries.

Groom’s cakes are usually themed around the groom’s job or hobby.  There are some wild and wonderful examples on Flickr, featuring beer cans, Daleks, stags and even hog roasts.  Time to have fun and let your imagination run riot!

And the best part is, you can have a traditional bridal cake, and a fun groom version. Have your cake and eat it, in other words. Sorry – couldn’t resist!

With vintage weddings being such a big theme, here’s a lovely idea for vintage transport with a fun twist! This fabulous vintage ice cream Rolls Royce is a genuine piece of Scottish history which is bound to create a great talking point and provide some gorgeous romantic photos.

This amazing vintage Rolls Royce was originally built for the Marques de San Miguel of Spain back in the 1920s. It was then owned by Viscount Scarsdale, and finally bought by S Luca, who lovingly converted it into this unique Rolls Royce ice cream van. It’s now available for hire for weddings and can be driven to venues within a 50 mile radius of East Lothian, including most of our our Get Knotted wedding venues in the Scottish Borders.

S Luca has been making fabulous ice cream for 100 years to a secret family recipe, and they’re based in Musselburgh and Edinburgh. They also do a great range of confectionery, including chocolates, truffles, and fantastic classic sugar mice, soor plooms and Hawick balls! Not to mention their famous Knickerbocker Glories, Banana Splits and Chocolate Nut Sundaes. Maybe an idea for your wedding dessert?

Whilst we don’t like to blow trumpets too loudly, here at Get Knotted we are feeling very excited to share our latest venture.  Years of event styling, and transforming all sorts of wedding venues, from bijou village halls and barns, to grand marquees and stately homes, means that we know our business and have learned a trick or two.  Quite simply we know what works and have been quietly setting trends, here and there. Do you remember our Floral Chandeliers? And what about our funky Taxi Photo Booth?

We have decided to put our knowledge and experience and creative flair to a different use, and are launching a limited range of props for sale, direct to event stylists, venues, and DIY brides.  We have sourced ahead-of-the trend wedding ideas that are perfect for a bespoke wedding style.

We are over the moon about sharing our knowledge to bring you a wonderful line of props for sale that we know will work for you, whatever your venue.  First up the next big thing in wedding chair decor…

When you are planning your wedding, every little detail you see in magazines or shops inspires you. Of course, you cannot have everything. We would like to share some of our top styling details to make sure your venue looks as stunning as you do.

Love – there are many ‘LOVE’ details available, so why not go big and have a love sign as a feature at your wedding reception. These look great in the corner of a function suite or outside on the lawn. The delicate lighting is perfect to set the mood.

Take a seat – forget about chair covers to hide tired out venue chairs and choose white folding chairs. With their clean and simple shape, these chairs look great in a rustic or rural setting. Set them up in rows for a traditional look or in a curve for a more dramatic effect. Add your own personality by placing details on the back or making your own seat covers.

Get-Knotted.net Curved White Folding Chairs

Twinkle Twinkle – twilight lighting is perfect for that subtle touch of light. Place them outside a marquee to soften the entrance or place around your venue to add a rustic feel.

RoxburgheWedding-wood219

Glamour – add a touch of glamour to your bouquet by including some sparkly brooches. These will glimmer under lights, enhancing your beautiful fresh flowers. Why not add brooches as your something old or borrowed and include family heirlooms to an extra special touch.

Trees – trees look pretty when adorned with flowers and candles in jars. Collect jars of all sizes, place candles inside and tie to tree branches with some ribbon, raffia or string.

Colour splash – dress up plain chairs with bold coloured hand-tied bouquets by placing them on chairs down the aisle for a simple, elegant look.

Bold details – if you are getting married in a venue, which already has some bold statement furnishings, use them to your advantage by adding smaller details with block colours to match or contrast and add some candle sticks to reflect the colour onto white table clothes.

The Borders Wedding Show in Kelso was great fun for Get Knotted! As a wedding planner, you sometimes find yourself having surreal moments, and on Sunday it was a case of arriving at Springwood Park accompanied by twiglights, assorted birdcages and a huge Wurlitzer wedding jukebox!

There was a real buzz about the place, and it was lovely to meet lots of brides-to-be and couples, and catch up with some fantastic suppliers. A slightly hair-raising moment was when Hugh Brown from Radio Borders swooped to do a live radio interview – something I’d never done before! I think he was attracted to the Wurlitzer – it’s a huge people magnet, especially for men who – let’s face it – aren’t quite as interested in wedding flowers, frocks and hair!

Borders Wedding Show Get Knotted stand

One of my standout finds was some beautiful glass-handled cake knives made by www.caddondesign.co.uk.   They’re so pretty and would make a a really wonderful wedding gift. It was great to discover they’re made on the doorstep in Selkirk! Cake pops are another big trend, and Love Bites of St Boswells presented some very cute (and tasty-looking!) specimens.  I also love the new photo booth by www.bordersphotobooths.co.uk – more on this very soon in a dedicated blog!

My wedding props also seemed to catch the eye, too – huge thanks to Sheila from Sheila Scott Photography for this pic of the Get Knotted stand in action. If you’re interested in wedding props, and particularly vintage accessories, we have all sorts of stylish items, including candelabras, vintage birdcages and typewriters, twiglights, baskets and pedestals, as well as floral arrangements. See the wedding prop gallery for more ideas!
