Duns Castle
Some couples have their hearts set on a romantic Scottish castle wedding, and live a long way away. This couple from the United States chose to get married in the Scottish Borders, and everything was arranged by keeping in close contact by phone and email. Duns Castle offered a lovely setting and atmosphere, and Get Knotted were asked to design the flowers and supply wedding props from our prop hire collection.
A castle wedding is naturally fantastic for a traditional Scottish theme – there’s no more spectacular backdrop! Our white folding chairs looked beautifully fresh and elegant for the marriage ceremony in the castle grounds, and the lake, gardens, evening mists and even local cows offered some great atmospheric photo opportunities!
For the flowers, the bride chose a delicate palette of beautiful soft colours: David Austin roses, pale pink and peach dahlias, white peonies, with soft coral hypericum berries and waxflowers, with soft greens and blues from Scottish thistles and succulents for textural interest and colour contrast.
The buttonholes were small white roses with thistles, finished with rustic twine. Our table decorations continued the floral theme, with our silver teapots and pretty 19th century china cups and saucers used as containers. The registration table was finished with the Castle’s own beautiful silver candlesticks.
We loved the couple’s creative ideas, which gave their castle wedding theme a stylish contemporary twist. Our vintage suitcases looked fantastic as a décor feature, and one of them even had a starring role as a display base for the wedding cake!
We’re always adding to our collection of handpicked vintage wedding props – see our prop section for the latest arrivals.
