The Cart Shed
The Cart Shed at Aikwood Tower near Selkirk in the Scottish Borders was the venue for Jen and Struan’s wedding reception. Jen is American and Struan the Groom is from Selkirk and the theme they wanted for their weddings was a woodland natural theme with a contemporary twist.
We used glass apothecary jars in various shapes and sizes and added moss, lichen, twigs, succulents, pine cones, heather, thistles and other natural materials to bring the surrounding woodland inside. Limewashed chiavari chairs around extra wide trestle tables completed the contemporary look, the wider tables allowed plenty of room for tableware and the woodland decorations.
Aikwood is a wonderful blend of ancient and modern, and the Tower itself is a tremendous back drop for a celebration. The old stone cart shed adjacent to the Tower has been cleverly converted with bi-fold glass doors running the length of the barn on one side which makes the space work just as well for a winter wedding as it does for al fresco dining the summer. With the Tower right beside the cart shed you have maximum use of the venue with roaring fires in the ancient tower and a large space for dining and evening parties in the cart shed.
